The West Virginia Office of Broadband was created within the West Virginia Department of Economic Development in 2021. The Office of Broadband is the lead administrative agency for broadband infrastructure, data, and mapping initiatives in West Virginia.

The West Virginia Office of Broadband works collaboratively with the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council in a shared mission: to expand and improve broadband connectivity in West Virginia.
About Broadband Enhancement Council
West Virginia Code §31G outlines specific duties and authorities to the Office of Broadband and the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council. The West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council was created in 2016 to develop policies, plans, and procedures to expand and enhance broadband access throughout West Virginia. The Council places a primary emphasis on the development of broadband infrastructure in unserved and underserved areas of the State
Council Members
The Broadband Council has 13 voting members; as well as two Senate Appointees and two House of Delegates Appointees, one from each party, to serve as ex officio, nonvoting advisory members. The Council conducts a regular virtual meeting on the second Thursday of each month, at 10:00 a.m. The Council builds upon input from numerous state agencies and recognizes the value of representation from urban and rural communities throughout West Virginia.
