About Office of Broadband
The West Virginia Office of Broadband was created within the West Virginia Department of Economic Development upon passage of House Bill 2002 by the West Virginia Legislature in 2021. This legislation amended West Virginia Code §31G to outline specific duties and authorities to the Office of Broadband and the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council. This legislation transferred some duties and authority from the Council to the Office, assigned some distinct responsibilities to the Office, and identifies some areas in which the Council and the Office share responsibilities.
About Broadband Enhancement Council
The West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council was formed in 2016 to provide for and oversee the development of plans, processes and procedures for extending broadband access into underserved and unserved areas of West Virginia.

Diverse Council
The West Virginia Legislature designed the Council to represent diverse users of broadband, including residential and business users, from various locations throughout the State.
Council Members
The Council has 13 voting members, as well as two appointees from the West Virginia Senate and two appointees from the West Virginia House of Delegates, one from each party, to serve as ex officio, nonvoting advisory members.
